Walk In, Get Care, Get Back to What Matters
Do you or a family member have a medical issue that needs immediate care?
The Urgent Care Centre in Launceston is a stand-alone facility that specialises in treating urgent medical conditions which are not serious enough for an Emergency Department (ED) visit. Our walk-in service offers urgent medical help for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. No appointment is necessary but a private facility fee will apply, unless eligible for State government subsidy (see Fees and Billing). Every patient is treated by an experienced medical practitioner and expert nurses.
Urgent care conditions are illnesses or injuries that are not immediately life-threatening, though may result in further disability or death if treatment is delayed longer than 24 hours. Access to on-site diagnostic services including radiology at Newstead X-Ray and pathology through Launceston Pathology allows us to determine the severity of medical conditions. X-Ray services operate within limited hours on the weekend. All urgent conditions are attended to immediately with Emergency conditions triaged and referred to appropriate tertiary Emergency services.
Established in 2021, the Urgent Care Centre is a key component in the delivery of urgent medical services in Launceston. The service is designed to improve the patient experience and to help ease the pressure of non-emergency patients on the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) Emergency Department.
How Much Does It Cost?
An upfront facility fee of $160 will is payable on arrival to the Urgent Care Centre (this fee is not covered by Medicare or health funds). Any further services billed through Medicare will be rebated in full. Associated services including X-ray and pathology will be bulk billed to eligible Medicare recipients, with X-Ray services operating at reduced hours on the weekend.
The State Government have committed to subsidise the facility fee for eligible concession-card holders who present with Urgent Care conditions between the hours of 5-7pm weekdays and 8am-2pm on weekends. These patients MUST call us on 6338 9898 to be triaged to ensure that they fulfil government eligibility and are able to be treated in the Urgent Care Centre. A Medicare fee is still payable on discharge, though this is fully rebated.
