The Urgent Care Centre is staffed by an experienced team of medical practitioners and nurses. Our doctors are all qualified and trained in the diagnosis and management of acute medical conditions, supported by a high-quality team of Emergency and Critical Care nurses. Our team has rapid access to Radiography, Sonography and Pathology.

Dr Toby Gardner
DIRECTOR / PRINCIPAL
Dr Toby Gardner spent 4 years working in rural Queensland as a Senior Medical Officer managing complex Emergency presentations before moving into General Practice. He has continued to teach in Acute Care Medicine at UTAS since relocating to Tasmania, and is ALS2 and APLS certified.
Dr Daniel Kirk
PRINCIPAL
Originally from Western Australia, Dr Daniel Kirk spent 5 years working in tertiary level Intensive Care and Acute Critical Care medicine before retraining in General Practice. Alongside Dr Toby Gardner he has taught Acute Care Medicine at UTAS and is ALS2 and APLS certified.
Dr Cameron McClure
URGENT CARE COORDINATOR
Dr Cam McClure is originally from Brisbane where he completed his medical training at the University of Queensland. He moved to Tasmania in 2016 and has since worked at the Launceston General Hospital Emergency Department. Dr McClure has Extended Skills in Urgent Care Medicine. He holds an Emergency Medicine Certificate from the Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and is certified in Advanced Life Support (ALS2) and Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST).
Dr Amanda Clifford
URGENT CARE COORDINATOR
Dr Amanda Clifford trained locally at the Launceston Clinical School, working at the LGH before moving to Georgetown to complete her FRACGP. She has gained invaluable experience working as an on-call rural GP over the last 6 years, looking after a wide variety of acute presentations in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. She is ALS2 certified.
Dr Tousif Syed
URGENT CARE COORDINATOR
Tousif relocated to Tasmania in 2020 as a medical registrar, having worked for many years in rural Queensland managing various acute presentations in a tertiary setting. He has also worked as a locum medical registrar at multiple sites across Tasmania and Victoria, before moving into General Practice in 2022. He is ALS2 certified.
Dr Samantha Cassidy
Dr Sam Cassidy is a UTAS Medical Graduate and completed her General Practitioner training locally in Northern Tasmania. In recent years she has been working at Scottsdale and has experience with on-call work in rural hospitals as well as providing acute medical care at festivals and sporting events. She is ALS2 certified.
Dr Felicity Acheson
Dr Felicity was raised and trained in Launceston, before travelling extensively around Australia working in diverse rural and regional locations. She is ALS2 certified and completed the ACRRM REST course.
Dr Amy Leung
Dr Amy Leung completed her medical training through James Cook University. She worked in rural general areas in QLD providing emergency and GP care before relocating to Tasmania in 2020, and is ALS certified.
Dr Ronald de Kruif
Dr Ron de Kruif originally trained in Emergency Medicine before moving into General Practice. He has experience working in areas of rural Victoria and on Kangaroo Island, coordinating emergency care and retrievals.
He is ALS1, APLS and REST certified.
Dr Philippa Eastwood
Dr Philippa Eastwood trained at James Cook University before undertaking her first few years as a doctor working within North Queensland’s major trauma centre, Townsville University Hospital with broad experience, including emergency medicine. She also worked in multiple rural emergency departments through QLD, before moving to Tasmania where she undertook work within the LGH Emergency Department and on-call rural emergency and inpatient work in Scottsdale, before joining us in the Urgent Care Centre. She is ALS2 certified.
Dr Edier Maya
Originally from Columbia, Dr Edi relocated to Australia in 2012, before moving to Tasmania in 2022. He has worked extensively in hospitals in South America and Australia, and is ALS1 certified.
Dr Maryam Jolfaei
Originally from Iran, Maryam joined our team recently, with a background in rural General Practice and Emergency Care. She is ALS1 certified and has recently completed the EMET course in paediatric emergencies.
Dr Lakshmi Sompalli
Lakshmi relocated to Far North Queensland from India in 2011, and has worked extensively in rural and regional hospitals in acute care and Emergency Department settings. She is ALS1 certified.
Hannah Chandler
CLINICAL NURSE CO-COORDINATOR (RN)
Hannah recently joined us as Clinical Co-Cordinator, with a long and extensive background in Emergency Nursing. A graduate of UTAS, she has worked in the RHH ED, across rural hospitals, and most recently as a senior nurse in the LGH ED. She has a graduate certificate in Emergency Nursing and is ALS certified.
Kirsten Williams
CLINICAL NURSE CO-COORDINATOR (RN)
Kirsten has been working in Emergency Medicine for the majority of her career, and continues to work in triage at the LGH, maintaining a close ongoing relationship with the THS. She has completed numerous Emergency courses over a number of years as professional development, and is ALS2 certified.
