The Urgent Care Centre is staffed by an experienced team of medical practitioners and nurses. Our doctors are all qualified and trained in the diagnosis and management of acute medical conditions, supported by a high-quality team of Emergency and Critical Care nurses. Our team has rapid access to Radiography, Sonography and Pathology.

Dr Toby Gardner
Dr Toby Gardner

DIRECTOR / PRINCIPAL

Dr Toby Gardner spent 4 years working in rural Queensland as a Senior Medical Officer managing complex Emergency presentations before moving into General Practice. He has continued to teach in Acute Care Medicine at UTAS since relocating to Tasmania, and is ALS2 and APLS certified.

Dr Daniel Kirk
Dr Daniel Kirk

PRINCIPAL

Originally from Western Australia, Dr Daniel Kirk spent 5 years working in tertiary level Intensive Care and Acute Critical Care medicine before retraining in General Practice. Alongside Dr Toby Gardner he has taught Acute Care Medicine at UTAS and is ALS2 and APLS certified.

Dr Cameron McClure
Dr Cameron McClure

URGENT CARE COORDINATOR

Dr Cam McClure is originally from Brisbane where he completed his medical training at the University of Queensland. He moved to Tasmania in 2016 and has since worked at the Launceston General Hospital Emergency Department. Dr McClure has Extended Skills in Urgent Care Medicine. He holds an Emergency Medicine Certificate from the Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and is certified in Advanced Life Support (ALS2) and Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST). 

Dr Amanda Clifford
Dr Amanda Clifford

URGENT CARE COORDINATOR

Dr Amanda Clifford trained locally at the Launceston Clinical School, working at the LGH before moving to Georgetown to complete her FRACGP. She has gained invaluable experience working as an on-call rural GP over the last 6 years, looking after a wide variety of acute presentations in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. She is ALS2 certified.

Dr Tousif Syed
Dr Tousif Syed

URGENT CARE COORDINATOR

Tousif relocated to Tasmania in 2020 as a medical registrar, having worked for many years in rural Queensland managing various acute presentations in a tertiary setting. He has also worked as a locum medical registrar at multiple sites across Tasmania and Victoria, before moving into General Practice in 2022. He is ALS2 certified.

Dr Samantha Cassidy
Dr Samantha Cassidy

Dr Sam Cassidy is a UTAS Medical Graduate and completed her General Practitioner training locally in Northern Tasmania.  In recent years she has been working at Scottsdale and has experience with on-call work in rural hospitals as well as providing acute medical care at festivals and sporting events. She is ALS2 certified.

Dr Meagan Campain

Dr Meagan Campain completed her medical training and junior doctor years in rural NSW before entering General Practice where she continued to work in a district hospital Emergency department for 5 years. Since moving to Tasmania she has worked as a senior doctor in Mersey Hospital Emergency Department and is ALS2 certified

Dr Claire Jones
Dr Claire Jones

Dr Claire Jones started her career as a Combat Medical Attendant in the Australian Army Reserve, before studying a Bachelor of Emergency Health at Monash University. She worked as an Advanced Life Support Paramedic with Ambulance Victoria for 10 years before moving into medicine. As a doctor she worked for two years at the Launceston General Hospital before starting at Newstead Medical and the Urgent Care Centre.

Dr Jeremy Yang
Dr Jeremy Yang

Dr Jeremy Yang is a UTAS graduate who has worked in both the RHH and LGH as a junior doctor in a variety of disciplines, including in the Emergency Department of both hospitals. He is in the final stages of completing his FRACGP. He is ALS certified.

Dr Paul Hanson
Dr Paul Hanson

Originally from Smithton, Dr Paul Hanson worked as a rural GP in Scottsdale for 20 years, with Advanced Fellowships in Obstetrics and Anaesthesia. He has a broad range of emergency skills from many years working on-call to service a rural hospital and spent many years teaching Emergency Medicine and practical skills at UTAS.

Dr Amy Leung

Dr Amy Leung completed her medical training through James Cook University. She worked in rural general areas in QLD providing emergency and GP care before relocating to Tasmania in 2020, and is ALS certified. 

Dr Philippa Eastwood
Dr Philippa Eastwood

Dr Philippa Eastwood trained at James Cook University before undertaking her first few years as a doctor working within North Queensland’s major trauma centre, Townsville University Hospital with broad experience, including emergency medicine. She also worked in multiple rural emergency departments through QLD, before moving to Tasmania where she undertook work within the LGH Emergency Department and on-call rural emergency and inpatient work in Scottsdale, before joining us in the Urgent Care Centre. She is ALS2 certified. 

Hannah Chandler
Hannah Chandler

CLINICAL NURSE CO-COORDINATOR (RN)

Hannah recently joined us as Clinical Co-Cordinator, with a long and extensive background in Emergency Nursing. A graduate of UTAS, she has worked in the RHH ED, across rural hospitals, and most recently as a senior nurse in the LGH ED. She has a graduate certificate in Emergency Nursing and is ALS certified.

Connie Lippis
Connie Lippis

CLINICAL NURSE CO-COORDINATOR (RN)

Connie is a graduate of UTAS with Clinical Honours. She has spent the last 6 years working in the Emergency Department at the LGH. She has previous experience in surgical nursing, mental health, and is APLS certified. She looks forward to providing urgent care to her community in this new environment!
